Move It Old Man - Emotional MAF Test - 24 Weeks To Go

Our family fosters dogs for Muddy Paws in Manhattan. It’s a regular question from my wife: “Is this a good week to get a foster?” It’s never a good week with four disparate schedules at the Liles house, but within the last year we’ve had 5 dogs stay with us after their long trip from Kentucky. (We’ve should’ve kept Blitz.)

This week we’ve had Mags, a very scared tiny dachshund / min-pin mix. I’m not sure what happened in her life before she arrived to us, but she is so scared. Mags became quickly attached to my wife, but when she leaves for work, this poor mutt shakes, paces, and whines.

The whine is so high pitched it’s like getting radiation treatment on my soul. It hurts. She’s scared and she wants you to know it and with the whine she is transferring it to you.

I could feel her anxiety in my chest when I made my way towards the gym to do my MAF test. I did my best to ground that energy down as I walked through Prospect Park trying to shake it off. If one could feel cortisol, I certainly did. I was Stressed.

This was the body I had to work with when I started the treadmill.

MAF Test June 3rd

  1. Pace 14:09 BPM 117 (warm up with fast walk)

  2. Pace 12:28 BPM 130

  3. Pace 13:08 BPM 130

  4. Pace 13:23 BPM 131

  5. Pace 13:23 BPM 131

It felt like my heart rate was harder than normal to keep down, I’m sure the stress didn’t help. I spent most of the of the test scanning my body for places to relax and using nasal breathing and long exhales to keep it under control. It sort of worked, but I was mentally tired by the end.
