Move It Old Man - Fahnestock 50k - 14 Weeks To Go
After a small summer break from writing, because I accidentally left my computer at Grandma’s house, I am back to issuing my own running report card.
Since last I wrote, I’ve hiked and run covering loads of distance. I’ve fallen more times than I’d like, especially when alone in the woods. I got rid of the Apple Watch and moved on to a Garmin Enduro 3 ,which has already saved me from being lost 3 times. I’ve been super energetic and super tired. I’ve had the paradoxical combo of feeling super strong and fragile at the same time. Humbled… I’ve been humbled a lot.
I also signed up for the Fahnestock 50k which is happening 5 days from now. Initially, I sign up for this as a practice race, but it seems now that this will likely be just as challenging, if not harder than the upcoming 50 miler. The course has loads of elevation gain (for me) over 5,000 feet. It’s rocky and likely will be wet. I am nervous since this is my first time over a marathon distance.
I’ve been training Upstate for two of my long run days and that’s what’s made me nervous, it’s also where I’ve done the most of my falling. I’ve done heat exposure training too, but it looks like the starting temperature will be 58ºF. Amazing!
I’ll Take That To-Go Please.

I am choosing to carry a lot of water, at first, just in case my pace is slow. The aid stations are quite spaced out in the beginning of the race. Hoping to slowly drain the reservoir and then only fill it if absolutely required. I also plan to start off slowly for the first 10-15 miles. Hoping to finish in 9.5 hours (fingers crossed), using my heart rate as my guide.
