The Power of Placebo

It is known by science that our beliefs have a profound effect on outcomes.  That is to say that our fictions can become reality.  These fictions can be even more effective when a group of people believe in the placebo (even if it is just microcrystalline cellulose and talc).  In a sense, the collective mythology creates a reality that can’t be explained by simple binary cause and effect.

This is not to say that one should mainline bleach or snort laundry detergent to clean out your insides.  

The way many of these chemical compounds work, is that they interact with compounds already in our body and essentially flip the switch of our own internal compounds.  It seems in many trials, that a placebo has a powerful effect of flipping these switches as well.

Many people that take medicine for a headache will report feeling better, before the medicine has had time to make its way through the bloodstream.  The placebo effect has taken place even before the actual medicine was processed through the body.

How can we add the power of placebo to physical practice or really any project?

Does a hips class make our hips more open or does the belief that it will make them more open?

What myths can we ascribe to our practice, what set and setting can get us on the path to a more operational lower back?  If you are prepared for a stretch or move to hurt or be sore, does it usually end up being a self-fulfilling prophecy?  If you plan to have fun, does it seem likely that it might be fun?

According to quantum theories, it is very probable that we are holograms and projections of light from the edges or center of a universe.  

On occasion, it seems that placebo, set and setting, and personal mythology can be a way for our beliefs to be a prism, refracting the light coming through to project our rainbows towards our highest potential.
