Spring Equinox Class

Spring Equinox Class

I have spent the month of March on a cleanse leading up to the Spring Equinox. Sure I lost weight, but the main thing I gained was some insight into my patterns. It’s hard to clean up rooms to which you aren’t willing to open the door, it’s hard to change patterns that go unquestioned. Some of my patterns became hyphenated identities: coffee-drinker, beer-drinker, meat-eater, etc. This exercise became an act of stepping-aside and non-identifying.

Here’s what I’ve noticed: Coffee-withdrawal is serious so much so that it is listed in the DSM-5. Beer was very easy to give up and it was the 5pm habit that I was more afraid to lose. My metabolism runs very differently without stimulants and sedatives. Getting enough calories from just fruit and vegetables is a lot of work. My body does not ache at night or when I wake up the way it used to.

I lost 16 pounds in the first 13 days, before it leveled off a bit. This is essentially my pandemic gain in the last year. I don’t regret eating cheese balls and eating casseroles in the last year as it felt appropriate medicine and grounding for a time of such upheaval. It’s good to know, that when I need to, I can clean up the mess after a junk food party.

I’m still not drinking milk yet, I’m a bit nervous about it. I’m still not eating meat, it just doesn’t sound good yet. I’m still not eating processed food (anything in a box with more than three ingredients. I only miss marijuana, but don’t desire the fogginess that comes with it. Oh, do I miss chocolate.
