Donkey Kong

A mentor should challenge you. A Five Star Hotel should comfort you. Too much of either one and problems arise.

The right teacher or mentor is not unlike Donkey Kong. They trick you with broken ladders, they roll barrels for you to jump over, they make you refine your technique, and with foresight of the master within you, they compassionately allow you to fail.

Life is rarely straightforward and the mentor wants to challenge you to find your own unique way.

Just as we must leave The Four Season with all of its room service and private infinity pools, we must move on from the external reliance of mentors when we have learned to answer our deeper inner koans.
